Tried for the first time, July 6th 2023. Really enjoyed the meat lovers fajitas! Well, that's what I call it. It's the last one on the fajita menu (with a picture). The ribs taste like they are marinaded in beer, delicious! The pico is the best! And I love their tomatillo salsa with such a nice Smokey Sweet/HOT Rich Chili Pepper flavor. If it was a soup, I could eat a whole Bowl!

We've been twice. Food is always good. Service first time fabulous. The second time was a little slower. But, still great.

I have heard great things about El Abuelo, so we decided to check it out. It is located in a small strip mall and kind of looks like a hole in the wall but once inside, it's a different story. The staff was very friendly and the service was great. The food was delicious. We found our new favorite Mexican restaurant!

Had to call someone over after about 10 minutes of waiting for someone to come greet us for drinks. But once someone arrived, the food was good! Large portions. Kids meals were way overpriced though (same price as adult meals)

It was my birthday and they of.course did rhe traditional thing. Portions were HUGE!! Never have seen yellow refried beans before... and I'm talking as yellow as the rice.... but it was good. And the server perked up a bit on that long icy day when I started speaking to him in Spanish! 😀

We have been here at least 15 times and have had great experiences 13 of those times. I do wish they were a little more consistent but I can honestly say I really enjoy their food, especially when they don't play games with their portions on their shrimp chimichanga. We have gotten three different size portions ordering the same thing and actually had somebody argue with us about it

Great food and service. Looks small but decent sized place. Food was prepared as ordered and didn't take long. Tables and booths. In "middle if nowhere" in greenwood from indy but worth the drive. Salsa was slightly chunky and not too hot. Ordered the biggest burrito and worth the money. Couldn't eat the whole thing. Guacamole was creamy. Plan on going back even with the 40 minute drive.

We have been here several times and they are constantly good with quick and friendly service. Only real problem is that if there is a wait there is no place, other than outside on the sidewalk. Be careful in the parking lot, it just sucks, poor design, but the restaurant has no control over that. It a good place, check them out!

Definitely one of the best experiences I've had at a Mexican restaurant! All of the workers were welcoming and polite. Our server was friendly and very attentive (but not annoyingly so). The portions were large and the food tasted amazing! I will definitely be back and recommend to anyone in the area.

What a cute little treat this place was! First things first, the decor is absolutely beautiful! The staff are very accommodating and friendly as well! This go around we didn't order any alcohol but stuck to the real star , the food . The chips and salsa that were brought to the table were so fresh. The salsa had a slightly more saltier edge than I'm used to be but the cilantro mingled in and toned it down, it really made a big difference and was delicious. I ordered the Burrito Gigante (pork) and it comes covered in cheese sauce and served with lettuce, onions and sour cream. My fiancé ordered the Burrito Trio Grande which includes steak, chicken and shrimp. It comes with rice and refried beans and the burrito is also covered in cheese and red sauce. When I tell you these portions are HUGE, they're huge lol! Everything came out in a timely matter and tasted fresh and authentic. We will definitely be back for more and for sure will be ordering my second favorite thing to Mexican food, margariiiiiitaaas! Oh, and everything came out to 32.00 dollars!

After we had a excellent meal we had fried ice cream and I have had this desert at other restaurants and this one was hands down the best I have ever had. I live in the northside, so it's a great when I'm visiting my friend in Franklin and we come to Abuelo for Mexican!I ordered the bombay burrito with chorizo instead of carnitas and it was to die for! I also really like their guacamole.Burritos are giant. I always get 2 meals out of it. I can't imagine how big the burrito is that they say they'll pay for if you eat the whole thing. LolWorth the try!

This is the best Mexican restaurant in my neighborhood. Really, it is soooo good but it seems like it is not the secret that is once was. Everyone that I meet in the area knows about it and for good reason. Tonight I tried the Burrito Mi Abuelito, a huge $25 burrito stuffed with chicken, pork, steak, beans and rice and topped with cheese and pico de gallo. If you can eat it solo in one sitting it is free. Not something that you want every time you go but it was seriously good. I have never been disappointed with the food or the staff and it is the closest to a favorite restaurant I have. They earned each star of this review!

Great little Mexican restaurant in a strip mall on US 31 north of Whiteland. Extensive menu, strong and tasty margaritas, great fresh made salsa, super friendly and attentive staff. There are dozens of these small Mexican restaurants in the metro Indianapolis area, this is one of the best. Definitely worth stopping in when you are in the area and in the mood for some delicious food prepared and served by the excellent staff.

I decided to eat at this place this time I ate inside.i usually get it to go.i wanted to try eating inside since the dining room is open. I ordered and they didn't disappoint the food came out it smelled good and taste great. My wife got this large burrito and if you eat all of it it's free. She ate it all it was free .refills came on time. Pretty good service and food. I will definitely return

Traveled an hour to come here. Truly worth the trip. Service was awesome. They brought out some extra hot salsa when I requested it and it was great. I ordered a Quesadilla type wrap and this thing was massive and delicious. Always kept my cup full and even gave me a cup to take my drink with me. I will be back, definitely.

Fast, Friendly Service & Good Food Came here for a Friday evening dinner with our son and his family - party of 7. Our wait was only about 10 minutes (we got lucky - it was busy) and we were quickly seated. We soon got our chips and salsa and were able to make our menu choices. The food came out in about 10 minutes. The food was very good. I had the Enchiladas Supremas and was very satisfied. Definitely will be back in the future.

Traveling Indiana A friend and I stopped here for lunch and were very pleased with the results. We both tried an item on the menu listed as "New", No. 23, Protein and Salad. It is a platter of one half shredded lettuce with your choice of grilled steak strips or chicken breast, one quarter guacamole, and one quarter pica de gallo. Healthy, satisfying, and very reasonably priced. The facility appeared clean and well kept and the service was excellent.

Get ready to loose your belt a notch! Don't drive to fast or you'll miss EL Abuelo located in the Whiteland retail strip mall next to Burger King. The Circle K gas station sits in the parking lot with it, Marcos pizza and a few others. There is plenty of parking in the private lot. You enter the restaurant to plethora of Mexican food smells that sends your hunger soaring, and authentic Mexican ambience. I like that you seat yourself, especially since I love my booths!;). The service is prompt and courteous. They serve chips and salsa to keep you busy while your meal is prepared. The portions are large enough to get full and have leftovers! I had the EL Abuelo nachos and they are "finger licking good!!" The steak, chicken and shrimp were cooked to perfection! I will definitely be trying their fajitas on a follow up visit. So if you have a taste for Mexican food and are in the Greenwood/Whiteland area, make sure you stop by!!

Edit: We no longer live in Greenwood, so I miss this place! I think they have the best Mezican food in the Indiana! As always the food was wonderful. This was the first time we ate there instead of ordering to go. It's a nice casual atmosphere and not stuffy at all. I ate so much that I thought I'd have to crawl out. The tamale was really good. The chili relleno was cooked perfectly and oozing with creamy flavorful cheese. We love the salsa, just the right kick. My husband doesn't like Mexican food so this is the perfect place for him. Delicious and well cooked pork tenderloin with crispy fries on the side. This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant! Oh yes, the service was great too. Keep up the good work!

I rate Mexican restaurants on two factors: quality of salsa(s) and margaritas. Both are mastered here. Ask for the Salsa Tomatillo if you like your salsa a bit adventurous. Service was prompt and great, food was flavorful, pricing was on par with expectations (a bit on the lower side comparatively); so yes, HIGHLY recommended

Great staff. Very rarely make a mistake on an order but are always willing to take care of it. They do a great job for the amount of customers they serve here. Hopefully one day they have a big stand alone building that can feed hundreds at a time!!! Pretty much the best Mexican food you’re going to find south of Indy and north of the Mason Dixion Line. Take out is perfect!

I love el Abuelo! My family and I know everybody there, and they are the best people you could ask for if you are wanting Mexican food. Every time we come for dinner, everyone makes sure they do it right the first time. They never mess up our dinners and it always turns out perfect in the end. If you want the best Mexican food, come to El Abuelo!😁👍

I love this place! The staff is awesome, the restaurant is comfy and inviting and full of beautiful artwork celebrating beautiful Indigenous Mexican culture. And the food is amazing as well. Best Mexican restaurant in Johnson county. Thank you for the wonderful service

I am here for the time and I loved the food. Am a vegetarian and they had a lot.of Options for Veg too. The staff were very polite and the food was served real quick. Nice ambience 🙂 Will surely come back here sometime soon.

Great Mexican joint!! Great margaritas!!! I try to eat low carb as much as possible so I went with the fully loaded "espécial" fajitas with no beans, no rice, and no shells. It was sizzling hot and super tasty!!

This restaurant has the best Mexican food! The staff is great and they make an incredible margarita! It's true what they say. You get what you pay for and at this place you really do get a great meal.

Absolutely the best place for an authentic Mexican dinner. We eat here once a week and have NEVER been disappointed. Staff is so friendly and great with our kids. Could not be happier eating here

Going there monthly for 5 years, excellent service, excellent food, nice atmosphere, for families and all others. On Sundays beat the Church crowd and get there at 11am!

Great tasting Mexican food and plenty of it. Service is personable and quick. Only complaint was that the salsa for the complementary chips and salsa was a tad salty

Salsa is great. Plates are hot. Service is fast. Beer is cheap and voluminous. Servings are large. Atmosphere is the usual Mexican restaurant we all know and love.
